to support families escaping violence. For the first time in years we were completely booked with eager golfers and we were
delighted with our new venue, Forest Park. Pictured above are event staff from The Women's Safe House and planning
committee members.

Local artists, poets, and musicians gathered at the Regional Arts Commission to bring domestic abuse into the
forefront during Domestic Violence Awareness Month. All seats were taken, leaving standing room only for a
sell-out crowd of 150. All performances evoked messages of rising above violence; each piece honored survivors
in its own way. Attendees were provided with information on the warning signs of abuse, stages of leaving a
harmful relationship, and myths about domestic violence. Event organizer and survivor, Torri Brown, recruited
local talent — David A.N Jackson “D’Poet,” Kels Da Poet, Maria Elena, Maurice Minor “Invisible Man,”
Bellawords, El Thought, Rita Reinhardt, Meka, Jenny David, Sister Taraji, Knowledge, and Chadsity “2B” Adams —
to perform without compensation. This event was held in partnership with Lydia’s House with support from the
National Council for Jewish Women.
